About the Bar - Madagascan 72%

The small plantation we source our Madagascan cacao from is nested on the banks of the Ramena River, a branch of the Sambirano River. This cacao is extremely rare, with only 5 tons of production per year. It received a Cacao of
Excellence Award in 2017, placing it amongst the best 50 cacao in the world. With only 5 tons.
Here, cacao trees grow under the canopy of indigenous shade trees. Sustainable agroforestry systems like these form a buffer zone protecting Sambirano’s natural rainforests. This is much needed; over 40% of Madagascar’s forests have disappeared over the last 60 years and the remaining forests are fragmented. Climate change and flooding are expected to have a growing impact on cacao production.
We adore the intense raspberry notes, and citrus berry tones of our Madagascan 72% chocolate, which we have won a double Great Taste & Bronze Academy of Chocolate Award for, as well as it being a firm customer favourite.
